Ting oil and mineral spirits food safety

Hoping someone with more experience can help me with a finishing.

I’ve been reading up on 100% pure tung oil as being food safe, so have decided to us it to finish a maple and walnut cutting board / butcher block. However, several articles I’ve read suggest using a 1:1 ratio of oil to mineral spirits for the first cost to improve penetration into the tight grain. Since mineral spirits are not food safe, is this okay? Any precautions to take or alternatives? I’m on a limited hobby budget, so buying anything expending is problematic. I’ve used just food grade mineral oil on past projects, but really liked the benefits of tung oil.

Any help/advice is appreciated.
